Why Bulgaria

The accountable way to treat your smile abroad

Genuine savings, not cut corners

Lower running costs in Bulgaria, not lower standards, mean patients in Sweden typically save up to 75%. The implant systems and materials are the same global names you would find in a Swedish private clinic.

EU-regulated, not a gamble

Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics work to the same European healthcare and hygiene standards as Sweden. Dentists are frequently trained in Germany, Italy and Sweden. This is the regulated alternative to the cheap-and-risky route.

A trip worth taking

Sofia is easy to reach from Sweden, usually via Copenhagen or Stockholm, with a travel time of around three to four hours. Combine your treatment with a calm, well-organised stay in one of Europe's most underrated capital cities. We arrange the trip for you.

Reimbursement

Claim part of the cost back through Försäkringskassan

You have the same right to dental subsidy for planned care in another EU/EEA country as you do for care in Sweden. Reimbursement is calculated on the Swedish reference price set by TLV, and you can receive up to 85% of the reference price for the portion above 15 000 kr. Because care in Sofia is often cheaper than the Swedish reference price, you can in many cases get back a large share of what you actually pay. All amounts are indicative, and the decision always rests with Försäkringskassan.

01

1. Apply for an advance ruling (recommended)

Before you travel you can apply to Försäkringskassan for a förhandsbesked (advance ruling) using form 5427. It is optional but recommended, and it can take several months, so apply in good time.

02

2. Pay and keep your documentation

You pay the full cost to the clinic in Sofia. We make sure you receive an itemised invoice, clinical records or certificates and X-rays in the format Försäkringskassan asks for.

03

3. Claim reimbursement afterwards

After treatment you claim reimbursement using form 5428. You have up to 10 years to apply. We hand you a complete file, and you submit the claim.

We prepare your paperwork

We make sure the clinic in Sofia issues an itemised invoice linked to the correct treatment codes, gather the clinical records, certificates and X-rays in the format Försäkringskassan accepts, and hand you a complete file for both the advance ruling (form 5427) and the later claim (form 5428). We prepare your paperwork for Försäkringskassan, you submit the claim. We do not guarantee any amount. The decision and amount are always determined by Försäkringskassan.

Försäkringskassan · Form 5427 (advance ruling) and 5428 (reimbursement claim)

Reimbursement is given for medically motivated care (for example implants, crowns, bridges). Purely cosmetic work such as veneers and teeth whitening does not qualify. You must be insured in Sweden.

This is general information, not financial or medical advice. All amounts are indicative, and the decision on reimbursement always rests with Försäkringskassan based on the Swedish reference price. You can never receive more than the care would have cost in Sweden, or more than you actually paid.

Is it safe?

Going abroad for treatment should feel safe, because it is

We exist to make this accountable. If something is not right, you have one named contact and a clear aftercare pathway, not a phone number that stops answering once you are home.

The accountable option, by design
  • EU hygiene and sterilisation standards, held to the same European framework as Swedish practices.
  • Dentists with international training and years of implant experience.
  • Premium implant systems and materials, the same global brands used in Swedish private clinics.
  • Written, multi-year guarantees on implant work.
  • In-house CAD/CAM and 3D imaging for precise, predictable results.
  • A dedicated English-speaking coordinator, so nothing is lost in translation.

Independent patient reviews

I had been quoted 95,000 kr in Stockholm for full-arch implants. The plan I got back was crystal clear, the price was a fraction, and the fact that they handled the Försäkringskassan paperwork was what sold me.
LALars A. · Stockholm · Full arch (All-on-4)
What reassured me was how organised it was. One person handled everything: the flights, the clinic, and the follow-up calls once I was home.
BNBirgitta N. · Helsingborg · Dental implants
I was nervous about going abroad after reading the horror stories. This felt completely different: EU-regulated, proper written guarantees, and no pressure at any point.
AJAnders J. · Göteborg · Implants and crowns
Clear pricing, professional care, and they prepared my advance-ruling application for Försäkringskassan before I travelled. As an English speaker in Sweden, having one contact who spoke my language made it easy.
KSKarin S. · Malmo · Smile makeover and crowns

Questions

The things patients in Sweden ask us most

Still unsure about something? Send your question with your enquiry and your coordinator will answer it personally.

Ask in your enquiry
Is dental treatment in Bulgaria safe?
Yes. Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics follow the same European healthcare, hygiene and sterilisation standards as Sweden. We only work with clinics that use premium implant systems and provide written guarantees.
How does reimbursement from Försäkringskassan work?
You have the same right to dental subsidy for planned care in another EU/EEA country as you do in Sweden. Reimbursement is calculated on the Swedish reference price, up to 85% of the portion above 15 000 kr. You pay the clinic yourself and then claim reimbursement using form 5428, ideally after an advance ruling (form 5427). We prepare your paperwork, but the decision and amount always rest with Försäkringskassan.
Will the dentists speak English?
Yes. You will have a dedicated English-speaking coordinator from your first enquiry, and your clinical team works with you in English throughout your treatment.
How many trips will I need?
It depends on your treatment. Many implant cases involve two visits, one to place the implants and one to fit the final teeth, with healing time in between. Your personalised plan sets out exactly how many trips you need and how long each takes.
How do I get to Sofia?
Sofia is easy to reach from Sweden, usually via Copenhagen or Stockholm, with a travel time of around three to four hours. If you are in Skane, Copenhagen is often easiest, with the Oresund train across the bridge. We arrange the whole trip for you, flights, transfers and accommodation, around your treatment dates. Always check current flights when you book.
What happens when I am back home?
Your coordinator stays in touch for aftercare and follow-up, and your work is covered by a written, multi-year guarantee. If you have any concerns, you have one named contact rather than a call centre.
How much will I actually save?
Most patients in Sweden save up to 75% compared with Swedish private prices, even after flights and accommodation. Your exact saving depends on your treatment, and we confirm it in your free plan. Any reimbursement from Försäkringskassan can reduce your cost further.
