Why Bulgaria

The accountable choice in the EU, not the riskier one

Inside the European Union, not outside it

Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics work to the same European healthcare and hygiene framework as Italy, with patient protection and recourse. This is the regulated alternative, not the route with no safety net.

Traceable, documented materials

Documented implant systems and traceable materials, the same global brands you would find in a private Italian clinic. Everything is documented, so your dentist in Italy can follow and maintain the work.

A short, organised trip

Sofia is around two hours' flight from Italy, with direct flights from Milan Bergamo, Rome, Naples, Bologna and Catania. Flights, transfers and accommodation are coordinated by a single coordinator.

Tax deduction

Recover 19% through your annual tax return

There is no state reimbursement for private dental care abroad: the national health service does not refund private implant work. What does exist is the 19% IRPEF deduction on healthcare expenses, which Italian law also recognises for treatment received abroad, provided certain conditions are met. It is a deduction on part of the expense, not a refund of the cost of treatment. It applies to the portion of your annual healthcare spend that exceeds the 129.11 € threshold, with no upper limit.

01

Invoice with a medical nature

We provide a compliant invoice from the EU clinic that clearly states the medical nature of the treatment, which is the requirement for the deduction.

02

Traceable payment

Payment must be made by traceable means such as bank transfer, credit card or debit card. Paying in cash means the deduction is lost.

03

Documents and translation

We provide the clinical documentation. If it is in a foreign language a translation into Italian is required, which the taxpayer can self-certify for English, French, German and Spanish.

04

Entered on the 730 or Redditi PF return

Expenses incurred abroad must be entered manually on the Modello 730 or Modello Redditi PF: they are not pre-filled by the Agenzia delle Entrate.

We prepare your documentation

We arrange the compliant invoice, make sure the payment is traceable, and collect the clinical documents, so you can take everything to your accountant and claim the 19% deduction on your tax return.

Agenzia delle Entrate · Modello 730 / Modello Redditi PF

19% IRPEF deduction on healthcare expenses above the 129.11 € threshold. It is a deduction on part of the expense, not a refund of the cost of treatment. Medical treatment only: purely cosmetic work, such as aesthetic veneers, may not qualify for the deduction. Flights and accommodation are not deductible.

This is general information and does not constitute tax advice. Always check your own situation with your accountant.

Is it safe?

Going abroad for treatment should feel safe, because it is

We exist to make this accountable. If something is not right, you have one named contact and a clear aftercare pathway, not a phone number that stops answering once you are home.

The accountable option, by design
  • EU hygiene and sterilisation standards, the same European framework as care in Italy.
  • Dentists with international training and years of implant experience.
  • Documented implant systems and traceable materials, the same global brands used in private Italian clinics.
  • Written, multi-year guarantees on implant work.
  • In-house CAD/CAM and 3D imaging for precise, predictable results.
  • A dedicated coordinator, so nothing is lost in communication.

I was afraid after reading the stories of people who came back and had to redo everything. Here it was different: everything inside the European Union, one coordinator from start to finish, and a scheduled check-up on my return.
MRMarco R. · Milano · Full arch
What convinced me was not the price but the organisation: the flights, the clinic and the follow-up calls all handled by one person. Everything was explained clearly, with no pressure at any point.
GEGiulia E. · Napoli · Implants
Traceable materials and everything documented, so my dentist in Turin can follow the work. I felt protected: the same European Union, a single coordinator and no surprises.
SCStefano C. · Torino · Full-mouth restoration
I researched for months before I trusted anyone with this. What won me over was the clarity of the plan and having one person to call, not a call centre. Everything organised, inside the EU, and looked after on my return too.

Questions

The things patients in Italy ask us most

Still unsure about something? Send your question with your enquiry and your coordinator will answer it personally.

Ask in your enquiry
Is dental treatment in Bulgaria safe?
Yes. Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics follow the same European healthcare, hygiene and sterilisation framework as Italy, with patient protection and recourse. We only work with clinics that use documented implant systems and provide written guarantees on implant work.
Why Bulgaria and not Albania?
The main difference is jurisdiction. Bulgaria is in the European Union: it offers protection and recourse, traceable materials and documentation that your dentist in Italy can follow. According to the SIdP, at least one in three Italians treated abroad later needs the work redone. Staying inside the EU reduces that risk.
Will the dentists speak English?
Yes. You will have a dedicated coordinator from your first enquiry, and your clinical team works with you in English throughout your treatment.
How many trips will I need?
It depends on your treatment. Many implant cases involve two visits, one to place the implants and one to fit the final teeth, with healing time in between. Your personalised plan sets out exactly how many trips you need and how long each takes.
Can I deduct the cost on my tax return?
Italian law allows a 19% IRPEF deduction on healthcare expenses, including those incurred abroad, provided certain conditions are met: traceable payment, an invoice stating the medical nature of the treatment, a translation into Italian where required, manual entry on the 730 or Redditi PF return, and a medical purpose. It is a deduction on part of the expense, not a refund of the cost of treatment. We prepare the documentation for you. This is general information, not tax advice: check with your accountant.
What happens when I am back home?
Your coordinator stays in touch for follow-up and aftercare, and your implant work is covered by a written, multi-year guarantee. If you have any concerns, you have one named contact rather than a call centre.
