Why Bulgaria

The accountable way to treat your smile abroad

Genuine savings, not cut corners

Lower running costs in Bulgaria, not lower standards, mean patients typically save 50 to 70%. The implant systems and materials are the same global brands you would find in a private French clinic.

An EU framework, not a gamble

Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics work to the same European healthcare and hygiene standards as France. We select screw-retained, documented implant systems that your dentist in France can follow up. This is the regulated alternative to the cheap-and-risky route.

Claim back what is owed to you

For planned care within the EU, l'Assurance Maladie reimburses the covered procedures at the French tariff, and your mutuelle may add an implant allowance. We prepare your reimbursement file to reduce your out-of-pocket cost.

Prices & indicative savings

What you pay in France, and what you could save

In France, the implant is hors nomenclature: l'Assurance Maladie does not reimburse the implant itself, which stays entirely at your own cost. Here is an indicative comparison of French private prices against indicative Bulgaria pricing.

Reimbursement

Claim back what is owed to you: we prepare your reimbursement file

For planned care within the EU, you can claim reimbursement for the covered portion, at the French tariff, using form S3125, and your mutuelle's implant allowance may be added on top. Important: the implant itself is hors nomenclature and is not reimbursed by l'Assurance Maladie, in France or abroad. l'Assurance Maladie reimburses listed procedures (crowns, extractions, certain prosthetic acts). The amount depends on your contract and your CPAM's decision, and is not guaranteed.

01

1. EU-standard care and a written quote

Your work is completed in Sofia, to European standards, with a written, itemised quote before you travel.

02

2. We gather the supporting documents

We make sure the clinic issues a paid invoice, the procedure coding and before/after panoramic X-rays, in line with French requirements.

03

3. You submit your file, ready to sign

You submit form S3125 to your CPAM (by post or via your ameli account) and the claim to your mutuelle. We hand you a file ready to sign and send.

Our file-preparation service

We turn your care abroad into a compliant file: paid invoice, itemisation and procedure coding, before/after panoramic X-rays, plus a summary for your mutuelle. All you have to do is sign and send. We are an intermediary, not your insurer: we do not guarantee any amount.

l'Assurance Maladie (CPAM) · Form S3125 (Care received abroad)

No prior authorisation is required for routine, outpatient dental care. Legal basis: Directive 2011/24/EU and European coordination. Indicative processing time: 3 to 12 months.

Information provided for guidance only and is non-contractual. Reimbursement depends on your mutuelle contract and your CPAM's decision; no amount is guaranteed. SmileBulgaria is an intermediary and is not your insurer. This information is neither medical nor financial advice.

Is it safe?

Going abroad for treatment should feel safe, because it is

We exist to make this accountable. If something is not right, you have one named contact and a clear aftercare pathway, not a phone number that stops answering once you are home.

The accountable option, by design
  • EU hygiene and sterilisation standards, held to the same European framework as French practices.
  • Dentists trained in the European Union, with years of implant experience.
  • Screw-retained, documented implant systems that your dentist in France can follow up.
  • Written, multi-year guarantees on implant work.
  • In-house 3D imaging and computer-aided design for precise, predictable results.
  • A dedicated English-speaking coordinator, so nothing is lost in translation.

Care to European standards

Bulgaria has been an EU member state since 2007. The same European hygiene and sterilisation standards as French practices. CE-marked materials and implants. Dentists trained in the European Union.

Reimbursement explained transparently

l'Assurance Maladie reimburses the covered procedures at the French tariff (form S3125), and your mutuelle's implant allowance may be added, often €200 to €1,000 per implant depending on your contract. To be clear: the implant itself is hors nomenclature and is not reimbursed by l'Assurance Maladie. The amount depends on your contract and your CPAM's decision, and is not guaranteed.

A clear process, no surprises

A written, itemised quote with all-inclusive pricing. A schedule of visits shared in advance. Written, multi-year guarantees on implant work.

Your dedicated, English-speaking coordination

An English-speaking SmileBulgaria coordinator looks after you. One person accompanies you, from first enquiry to aftercare, in France and in Sofia. You always know who to turn to.

An independent, transparent intermediary

SmileBulgaria is an independent introduction and coordination service. We are neither a dental practice nor an insurer. Compliant with Directive 2011/24/EU on cross-border care.

Questions

The things patients in France ask us most

Still unsure about something? Send your question with your enquiry and your coordinator will answer it personally.

Ask in your enquiry
Is dental treatment in Bulgaria safe?
Yes. Bulgaria is an EU member state, so clinics follow the same European healthcare, hygiene and sterilisation standards as France. We only work with clinics that use recognised implant systems and provide written guarantees.
Will I be reimbursed by l'Assurance Maladie?
For planned care within the EU, l'Assurance Maladie reimburses the covered procedures at the French tariff (crowns, extractions, certain prosthetic acts), using form S3125. Please note: the implant itself is hors nomenclature and is not reimbursed by l'Assurance Maladie, in France or abroad. Your mutuelle may, however, add an implant allowance, often €200 to €1,000 per implant depending on your contract. The amount depends on your contract and your CPAM's decision; it is not guaranteed.
Do I need prior authorisation?
No, not for routine, outpatient dental care. Prior authorisation only concerns heavy procedures requiring at least one overnight hospital stay or highly specialised equipment listed by ministerial order. Everyday dental care is excluded from it.
Will the dentists speak English?
Yes. You will have a dedicated English-speaking coordinator from your first enquiry, and your clinical team works with you in English throughout your treatment.
How many trips will I need?
It depends on your treatment. Many implant cases involve two visits, one to place the implants and one to fit the final teeth, with healing time in between. Your personalised plan sets out exactly how many trips you need and how long each takes.
What happens when I am back home?
Your coordinator stays in touch for aftercare and follow-up, and your work is covered by a written, multi-year guarantee. If you have any concerns, you have one named contact rather than a call centre.
How much will I actually save?
Most patients save between 50% and 70% compared with private French prices, even after flights and accommodation. Your exact saving depends on your treatment, and we confirm it in your free quote.
